Short trip to the Isle of Wight

Last weekend Rob came over again. It was a well-needed getaway for the both of us, so we decided to make the most of it by going to the Isle of Wight for two days.

On Friday I was supposed to have a lecture in the morning, but it was canceled last minute so I had the opportunity to surprise Rob at the airport. Needless to say that he already saw this coming and wasn’t surprised at all (story of my life), but he was well excited to see me a bit sooner anyway. Being together means off-time and holiday feelings right away.

First things first: Rob had a nap. What is it with all those people falling asleep when they come visit me? I must be very relaxing. In the evening we went out for dinner at Turtle Bay, where else, and did some studying together. That’s a bonus of having an engineer as a boyfriend. Finally, the physical oceanography tutorials start to make some sense to me.

Saturday morning we took on the journey to Sandown. It was a wet but cozy ride. First by ferry from Southampton to Cowes, Isle of Wight. Then the bus through all the towns towards Newport. We had lunch in Newport and continued our journey by bus over winding roads and hills. We hadn’t anticipated how long this trip would take, but we had a month worth of stories to tell each other so we were good 🙂

We had booked a room at Melville hotel and spa in Sandown (near Shanklin on the little map). Although the appearance of the hotel was a bit disappointing we enjoyed it nonetheless. I went to the spa while Rob slept (yes :)). At night we had a very English dinner in a cute bistro (I love the picture haha, lekker kneuterig), and we walked on the beach at night.

Sunday was for more spa together and the trip home. We had a good breakfast with fruit and eggs. Although Rob regretted his choice for a real English breakfast later, I think it is fun that he tried. The spa was small, but good for us to relax some hours. Oh and not to forget, we had the best lazy late lunch at a restaurant near the seaside! We sat in the sun, had nacho’s and summer beer, and spend our time chatting and working. I love those cozy moments.

Some more pictures of my favourite moments that weekend. This will keep me going until December when I see him again. If you want to see any of the pictures enlarged you can click on them to open a manual slideshow. Love xx

  1. I live on the Isle of Wight and I’m always interested to read other people’s blog posts about our lovely island. I enjoyed looking at your photos. I hope you enjoyed your visit, and maybe you will come back again one day.
